Dimethyl phthalate is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a slight aroma. It is miscible with organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, acetone, cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone, methanol, n-butanol, toluene, etc., but insoluble in water, oil, and ether.
